adline contest - Sadhana Ramchander (16 Jul)

Yes, I made a list and put up a printout on my bulletin board. Maloo read it and came up with her own:

"Kids are like the hot sun; they wear their parents out!"

So they know what they are, the little rascals!!
Usha, I think we should wait...there might be more. In any case, where should I put it up?

Sadhana

adline contest - Usha Raman (16 Jul)

can we put together a consolidated list and post it on someone's blog for future reference?

hi,

liked the blow hot blow cold razai comparison, also the mosquito bytes and the peanuts. but the vote goes to raj's incontinent bike--brings back memories! a special mention to chuck the choke.

adline contest - Sarada Natarajan (16 Jul)

Giri's duh ones bring back memories! This is how my brother would have put it in his Loyola College days:

"Machi!.....Kkkids are...llikkkke...[lopsided shrug and grimace]"

Familiar, anyone?

Any suggestions on when and how to wrap this up?

yrs kiddingly

Sorry, late into this... and I guess there's really beer flowing out there, but here's my two bit's worth as I pack off to the airport to Chennai -

Children are like Rolls Royces - you'd love to borrow one from your sis, but you gulp thinking of the responsibility involved.

Regards,
Eswar

adline contest - A Giridhar RAO (15 Jul)

yes, i like razais and surreal potatoes too; padmini's typos wer
niice; @ icrisat, i worked for groundnuts; but raj's bike takes the
cake -- if i may mangle my metaphors thus.

meanwhile, anyone for parting whimsies?

Duh-1: Kids are like, y'know, Wow!

Duh-2: Kids are like a poor memory. I ... ah ... forget why....

and mainly,

Kids are like rumours. They grow.

Here are my favorites.

I liked the one about the typos, too, but I couldn't find it in my mail. I especially liked the faint menace in the waiting for the next edition.

Then I like this one, appeals to my love of fibs and fibbers.
Kids are like fiction. Enjoy them, take them seriously, but don't
believe everything they say.

This is a good one, though more about us than them, hey?
Kids are like razais, when they are on you you want them off you and when they are off you you want them on you

And I like this the best of all, for starting off the whole thing. What a wonderful metaphor for the times! I'm sure that if we did a poster on chuck the choke and spoil the child, with an appropriate cartoon, the Bowenpally school would put it up right there beside the wet cement aphorism.

"Children are like tubelights; if the choke fails, they don't function."

While all of them are imaginative and insighful, these are my favourites:

1. Kids are like razais, when they are on you you want them off you and when they are off you you want them on you
--rekha

2. Kids are like peanuts. You work for them. ---Giri

3. Kids are like Raj's Bullet, impossible to kickstart in the morning, poor brake function at cruising speed and incontinent just as you hit the highway. - Sarada

Sadhana

adline contest - Sarada Natarajan (15 Jul)

These are a few of my favourite things...

9. Your kids are like your parents: they can drive you crazy effortlessly.

10. Kids are like peanuts. You work for them. [i like the brevity of this one]
---Giri

Kids are like potatoes, they are surreal [this is beautiful!]

Kids are like razais, when they are on you you want them off you and when they are off you you want them on you
--rekha

Children are like racing cars: if you shut the throttle you can forget the course.
--mythili

children are like typos in a published book, you have to live with what you have got till the next edition!

wow - This thing is really picking up - quite a few classy ones.
here's my somewhat convoluted offering for the day.

Kids are like Raj's Bullet, impossible to kickstart in the morning, poor brake function at cruising speed and incontinent just as you hit the highway.

i am coming in late because my
creativity only works reactively.
i have at last found something
i can echo, thanks sarada for
starting this, and thanks sadhana
for providing one that i can
rhyme with:

this, at last, is the mouse pad.

Lovely!

Here's one more:

Kids are like spouses...can't do with them; can't do without them!

adline contest - Rekha Abel (14 Jul)

Here are mine:

Kids are like bonnets, there is always a bee (or several bees) buzzing in them
Kids are like mystery novels with the last 2 chapters missing, they keep you guessing
Kids are like potatoes, they are surreal
Kids are like theories (especially the postmodern ones), just when you think you've understood them they come up with something new
Kids are like razais, when they are on you you want them off you and when they are off you you want them on you
Kids are like a magnifying glass, the tiniest details become big stories
Kids are our muses, they keep our creativity alive ... which is what we are all doing now, I guess.

Thanks Sarada, this is great fun.

Rekha.

Here are a couple of mine, the first born of experience, the second holding hopes and fears:

Children are like racing cars: if you shut the throttle you can forget the course.

Children are like tables: in time they multiply!

hi,

i rather like this.

* children are like jelly, they can't keep still. (is that a bit mixed?)
* children are like television show hosts, always butting in!
* children are like entangled hair, you have to undo the knots gently. (i know men with long hair)
* children are like stepneys, they keep you going (at least in my case).
* children are like the Indian monsoons (or English weather) unpredictable. (curtsies to johnson)
* children are like pressure cookers, they need to whistle to let off steam.
* children are like mirrors, they reflect you. (old wine)
* children are like epiphanies, help you see beyond the frame.
* children are like soda water, irrepressible.

get the feeling this is more about me than them!

This is a great 'contest', Sarada and Giridhar! ...I add Vijay, Usha and Kobita.
Here are my lines:

- Kids are like life itself; worry about them or enjoy them...it is entirely up to you! (Vijay, are you listening?!)

- Kids are like ether; they fill every space in your world.

- Babies are like spiders; they catch you in their web and your life
s-l-o-w-s d-o-w-n forever...
Cheers...

adline contest - A Giridhar RAO (13 Jul)

sarada (and hello, everybody else -- i've added shiv, sadhana, probal
and rekha to the "contest")

can one submit several entries? (it's the beer, you see....) yes? here goes:

1. Kids are like mosquitoes; always looking for a bite. (Ouch! But read on)

2. Kids are like quiz-masters: their decision is final.

3. Kids are like fiction. Enjoy them, take them seriously, but don't
believe everything they say.

4. The Sardarji saw some men running. He was told that it was the
marathon, and the winner would get a prize. "Good", he said, "but why
are the others running?" -- Kids are like Sardars: they see things
clearly.

5. Kids are like bedsheets and window-panes: the cleaner they are, the
dirtier they get.

6. Kids are the TV Remote: you're always looking for the Mute button.

7. Kids are like the morning milk; quick to boil over and take forever
to cool down.

8. Kids are like ants. There are always many more of them than you think.

9. Your kids are like your parents: they can drive you crazy effortlessly.

Finally,

10. Kids are like peanuts. You work for them.

i rest my case.

regards
